There is undeniably a backlash coming against companies that continue to produce petrochemical based products when there are sustainable alternatives available. The world has finally woken up to the impending global climate crisis and change in certain sectors will come rapidly.
ExxonMobil Australia’s recent ill-timed tweet, “Stay Safe and have fun this new year from all of us at ExxonMobil Australia”
The tweet prompted an international backlash as people pointed out how the oil giant has contributed to the climate crisis, exacerbating the deadly wildfires in Australia, with one parody website posting the image below in reply.
The world is definitely changing and I see environmentally positive vegetable-based products and probiotic cleaners replacing 90% of traditional commercial cleaning products within 5 years as more and more companies embrace the concept of the Circular Economy.
There are definite concerns over the effect that petrochemical based detergents are having on the environment. Furthermore, a recently published and well-publicised study carried out in Norway by the University of Bergen suggests that using conventional cleaning products can be as harmful to cleaning staff as smoking 20 cigarettes a day.
I can see these two Mega Trends having a massive impact on traditional manufacturers. When I think back to the devastating effect that Netflix had on Blockbuster Video and what Uber have done to the Taxi Trade, I can see changes of this magnitude occurring in the commercial cleaning chemicals market.
I believe we are about to see one of the biggest shake ups ever seen in the UK Cleaning Industry. There will be casualties unless companies are prepared to adapt and accept that what was appropriate 2 years ago is not acceptable now. Unfortunately, history tells us that most businesses will not make that change.
A number of visionary businesses like the Olympia Exhibition Centre in London, have embraced circular cleaning as part of the Circular Economy. We have worked closely with this iconic venue, to ensure that they are at the very forefront of environmentally considerate commercial cleaning. By using concentrated Cradle to Cradle Accredited (C2C) commercial cleaning products
Olympia's Cleaning Manager Kristina Jearrad explains how she was very sceptical of the efficacy of so called “green” products and how she is now using only 3 products to clean the entire venue and the massive benefits it now brings, to the health of her cleaners, their reduced carbon impact and from a storage perspective. Having been deeply affected personally by the David Attenborough series Blue Planet, I have a goal to accelerate the Worlds Transition to Sustainable Cleaning, I am convinced that it is only a matter of time. If you think that this is something that could be of interest to your business please message me and I can explain some of the options we have available to trial the system at very little or no cost.
