Global Heatwaves and working with a Carbon Neutral Supplier
Working with Carbon Neutral Certified businesses like Janitorial Express that are focused on reducing our Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, can be a huge benefit to our clients that share the same environmental concerns. The recent record high temperatures we are seeing across the world cannot fail to focus the mind.
In order to handle the GHG emissions that cannot be further reduced, the most responsible approach is to offset them through Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) or CDM registered carbon credits. This will guarantee that the inescapable emissions are counterbalanced with a legitimate, accredited, and enduring carbon offset.
Its our second year of working with Ethical Nation and Neutral Carbon Zone utilising their Tree in a Million Scheme, Janitorial Express one of the UK’s most environmentally focused Janitorial Distributors has achieved carbon neutral certification.
The large amounts of detailed data produced related to our carbon reduction program and Carbon Neutral Certification for Scope 1 and Scope 2 is available to our clients in order to support their own Scope 3 submissions.
How can our clients go further and reduce their Scope 3 Emissions?
Scope 3 emissions are indirect emissions that occur during the process of conducting the day to day operations of a business but are not directly owned or controlled by that business These emissions are generated from activities such as the production of purchased goods and services and are considered the most difficult to measure and reduce, as they involve activities that are often outside the direct control of the organization. However, they can also represent a significant portion of an organization's overall carbon footprint, and as such, they are increasingly being seen as a critical area for emissions reduction efforts.
To address scope 3 emissions, organizations are increasingly looking to work collaboratively with their suppliers to reduce emissions across the entire business. This can involve initiatives such as setting sustainability targets for suppliers, promoting sustainable product design, and engaging with customers to encourage more sustainable product use and disposal.
However, we need to be clear. Carbon Neutral and Net Zero carbon are two terms that are often used interchangeably, but they actually have different meanings.
Carbon neutral refers to the balance between the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions produced and the amount of CO2 removed from the atmosphere. To achieve carbon neutrality, an organization must offset its emissions by investing in carbon reduction projects, such as renewable energy or reforestation programs.
Net zero carbon, on the other hand, refers to the complete elimination of CO2 emissions from an organization's operations. This means that the organization must reduce its emissions to zero and find ways to remove any remaining emissions from the atmosphere, such as through carbon capture and storage technologies.
In other words, carbon neutral is about balancing emissions with offsetting, while net zero is about eliminating emissions altogether. While both are important in mitigating climate change, net zero carbon is seen as a more ambitious goal that requires more significant changes in the way we live and work.
